Bio

Originally a native of California, Ryan Howard (b. 1981) is currently active as a composer, scholar, and educator in the New York metropolitan area. He holds degrees from the City University of New York Graduate Center (Ph.D), Yale University (M.M., M.M.A.) and Indiana University (B.M.), where he was a recipient of numerous scholarships and awards, and where his major teachers included Claude Baker, Martin Bresnick, David Lang, Ingram Marshall, Jeff Nichols, Sven-David Sandström, and Eugene O'Brien. His music has been performed in recent years in the United States and Europe by acclaimed soloists and ensembles including Cygnus Ensemble, the Mivos Quartet, percussionist Gwendolyn Burgett, organist Gerd Rosinsky, duo JustMusic, the Vigil Ensemble, and the Iktus Duo, among others.
He currently serves as an instructor of music at William Paterson University of New Jersey and at Montclair State University, and has also previously taught at Hofstra University and at Yale University.
